This one is a nice little denim-y type in dark blue. It has pockets and the sweetest little wooden buttons up the front. The label says BDG size medium, I think it's originally from Urban Outfitters.

More spring cleaning

This skirt is one of my absolute favourites, but it just never fit me quite right. So I am going to stop looking at it each day, wishing it would work for me and pass it on to someone who will love it like I have. Doesn't this skirt make you think of sweet farmhouses with a sheep or two and a hanging porch swing?

The Island Now

While Toronto Island is still a great refuge from the city, and at only ten minutes and ten dollars away how can I complain, I have to complain anyway. The charm and good 'ol fashioned fun just isn't there. I mean really, when you are greeted by a Pizza Pizza stand right off the ferry? I thought the point was to bring a picnic. Anyway, it's still beautiful today, and the view of the city can't be beat. Here's a peek:

The good 'ol days of summer

It's been pretty hot in Toronto these past few days, and I mean hot, like 35 degrees and what feels like 100% humidity, hot. I would like to be out doing something, but the moment I walk out the door I lose all energy.

Just across the lake is Toronto Island, which is a great place to spend the day. Lake Ontario surrounds this massive parkland. There are very few houses and actual permanent dwellers of the island and you have to take a ferry to get there. It's a lovely get away from the city and everything about it is super quaint. The folks that do have houses there lease them from the city and as the leases are about to expire in coming years there's talk of developing it. Toronto has a lot of problems when it comes to city planning and developing, but if they did anything to changed the island anymore than they already have I think there would be no doubt that we would win world's worst city. We will have to wait a few more years to know what is going to happen, but there is talk of upsizing the teeny, tiny airport that is there to an international airport. Yuck.

For now, I will show you something wonderful that once was on the island- Hotel Hanlan. I wish decision makers could be mindful of the regret of things we have lost in the last 100 years or less, as to not make the same mistakes over and over.

Hotel Hanlan was built in the mid 1800s, and it has a sort of Eastern look, although it is considered Second Empire in style. After a fire destroyed part of it in 1909 it was torn down rather than salvaged and the damaged parts reconstructed (that happens a lot here).

Moral of the story? Two things: I want to go relax at Hotel Hanlan on Toronto Island; Toronto sucks for historic preservation.

A Busy Bee

The clock is ticking on my time in Toronto, which means all of those things I keep saying I will do tomorrow need to be done now if I am going to make this a smooth move. A-Line Rockabilly Perfection

This one is one of my favourites, and hard to part with, but it just doesn't fit anymore. Grrr. It's light brown/cream with red sparrows flying all around and little yellow and red ribbons strewn about. Two pockets on each hip- and who doesn't love a skirt with pockets? Buttons up the front, made of cotton. I think the brand is OK47, but it's one of those artsy labels that are impossible to read.

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes

I have been absent for a while and it is in part due to the major changes I am about to have to deal with. While they are exciting changes, they still make my easily aggravated anxiety shoot through the roof. Let's just say I am trying to remain positive. Although I may be taking it to extremes as my boyfriend has called me Dr. Phil more than once. Ouch.

How about a little change inspiration to help us out? I can't think of anything better than this very strange (and unique) video montage of a Bowie classic.

Now that you have read a colossal ramble you are probably hoping for some sort of climax. In about a month I am uprooting my life for the second time in one year (bear in mind I stay in the same place far beyond I want to simply because I hate moving). Anyway, I live in Toronto now and will be moving to NYC for grad school at Pratt Institute. The school part is what I am excited about. The finding a place to live that isn't bed bug, roach, rat, and who knows what infested frightens me. Renting in NYC is foreign to even the most seasoned big city dwellers, and I have to confess, I am overwhelmed by the process. Does anyone have any advice for me?
